My first Lunch in KG Mess

No entrance examination did not make my journey into BITS, Pilani easy either. AP used to flood quite a lot in those years and it was one of those days I began my journey from Chennai central to Delhi. My first trip ever outside Tamil Nadu. In fact, I come from a small town called Tirunelveli where we had one restaurant serving North Indian cuisine for years. My father used to treats us there occasionally.

We traveled 48 hours almost in the train , I was accompanied by my uncle, who is no great traveler either. He don't speak English and no Hindi. My Hindi knowledge was limited to the heavily distracted ( distraction from beautiful Tamil damsels learning with me of course) private lessons, which  I had for a year. The journey was long more than 48 hours and the food was killing our taste buds, chapathis and pooris mostly, But there was a beautiful Girl travelling in the same coach and later she was on the same bus too to pilani. That was the only highlight of the journey for me otherwise it was all wet and seemed liked a a ocean of water every where.

Landed in pilani , rischawed to the bhawan , bundled into the room and got cleaned all in a hurry because my uncle pestering me for good food, according to him it is only Rice and Sambhar. It was a Saturday and we were seated in the mess table. We got our plates and there was a some kind of curry on the table with pumpkins and then we were served something like chapathis. My uncle was disappointed, he ask me, where is rice and he is worried how I am going to survive. I said to my uncle, may be it is coming later. Let us eat this first. Then I start eating and I found the chappathi has something inside. I got excited and tell my uncle look they have put rice inside the chappathi and cooked.  I told him may be this the was they cook here. He was heart broken and it took me couple of week to realize it was Aloo Paratha I was eating every Saturday in KG mess.

Then the for best Aloo Parathas, we know where to go in Pilani and later when I worked in Punjab for couple of years I realized how a good allo paratha is made and how to eat one (lots of fresh butter, curd and pickle)
